@announce Am I allowed to use many samples if each is just one note being played on an instrument (in this case a grand piano from https://sfzinstruments.github.io/pianos/salamander/)? I lack a piano and intended on using these as though I were including a piano as an instrument
@trebach LOL, yeah, sure, that’s fine. Go ahead and use sampled instruments to your heart’s content.
But seriously, is there a better way for us to word the restriction on lifting entire seconds from someone else’s song? Like the whole Bittersweet Symphony situation?
@announce I just had a listen to that and the previous version and the Bittersweet Symphony situation is so much worse than just the samples they took. It seems like the rest of the music was parallel reconstruction as well.
How narrowly it should be worded at least partially depends on how you'd feel about the following songs: Frontier Psychiatrist by The Avalanches (comprised of samples from 28 different sources mixed together), Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice (bass line throughout is a sample from the intro of Under Pressure by Queen and David Bowie with an extra beat added), Bag of Glue by The Rubberbandits (almost all of the music is a looped instrumental sample of Hollywood Swinging by Kool and the Gang but with their own lyrics added), and Attack Music by Machinae Supremacy (samples 5 seconds of Futurama at the beginning of the song before the rest being their own work).
