How about the AI rule, I use iZotope Ozone to master my tracks which uses AI to listen to the final song mix and provides a baseline of how to start mastering - is that allowed? Can I start production now, or should I wait until May when FV officially starts?

@announce How many people can be involved in creating an entry? In the first couple of years, I thought it was 2, but then Futzle won last year with her whole instance providing vocals, so presumably more are allowed?

@announce One significant thing missing to get a feel for what this thing is, is previous entries. There are song titles listed under "Hall of Fame", but no way to listen to the songs. I suppose I could search further myself, but what's there isn't enough to get me interested enough to do that.

After looking at the site and reading the FAQ, I still have no idea what it is. Maybe it's intentional and I stumbled on to something I shouldn't have? But if not, you may want to add more info.

hello there, amazing Fedivision team.

Couple of questions:

1. My entry is being done on a comparatively quite limited platform/instrument. Therefore I'd like to create a video about it and release it after May 12th (application deadline) on my peertube and put a link to it into the description.
1.1. Is this within the rules (it may clash with the "unreleased" rule).
1.2. when I say "under my peertube account": That would reveal who I am. Better create another account just for this occasion? No problem, just wanna know

2. If I would take part in multiple projects, maybe as "bass player" here maybe as singer there... whatever... so not completely invisible (but those wouldn't be "my" projects):
Can I still submit my own entry? Or would that be against the rules?

@herr_irrtum Good questions, we’ll need to convene the organizers and come to a decision. Stay tuned.

@announce @herr_irrtum All three of us have discussed and we feel:

1.1: We would like you to hold off until the playlist is published on 19 May. After that you can hype your entry as much as you like. The reasoning is that we want all entries to have the same amount of time in our listeners’ ears. (The week from 12 to 19 May is for us organizers to download, transcode, upload, etc. and it will definitely take a week if last year was any guide.)

@herr_irrtum 1.2: Not required! Indeed, we will be linking your song to your Fedi account all over the place; part of the mission of Fedivision is to showcase the musicians in our network.

@herr_irrtum 2: If you’re a session musician on other people’s entries, that’s fine and it doesn’t preclude your own entry. (Example: “Money for Nothing” is a Dire Straits song, even though you can hear Sting’s voice.) In other words: there’s a line, but it’s not where you are, it’s more at collaborations and bands.

Looking forward to hearing your comeback entry after the joy of your Fedivision creation last year!

@rikard The reason why past recordings aren’t on the site is that we aren’t licensed to retain them past the duration of the event. You could seek out the musicians mentioned and find links to their music, they have often been included as tracks on later albums on Bandcamp or elsewhere.

But we don’t focus much on the past years because we want Fedivision to be an event that happens in the moment.

You haven’t said if you felt like participating as a contestant or a listener. Maybe it’s neither, that’s OK too.

@announce Yes, I didn't say anything about participating, because I can't tell what the thing is. (And I'll probably be too busy anyway.) But I'm not going to go on about it - not wanting random strangers to join in is of course fine. I just wanted to let you know in case the opaqueness wasn't intentional.

@ddlyh There’s no limit—you can be USA For Africa if you like!—but that counts as the entry for all those people. If the Spice Girls field an entry, Geri Halliwell can’t, and vice versa.

iZotope Ozone seems fine: it’s a production tool, not a composition tool.

Start production now, or whenever you need so that you are ready to submit at the start of May 2024.

@Mondgesicht Ah, you found a holdover from last year. Will fix. Last year your instance needed to be not blocked by mastodon.art. Now we have our own instance with its own block list.
